Biafra Protests: S-East govs, Ohanaeze to meet in Owerri

Disturbed by the rising activities of separatist groupsin their geo-political zone, South-East Governors and the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, will be meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, this weekend, at the instance of the Governor Rochas Okorocha, to find a lasting solution to the recent agitations.

S-East govs divided over pro-Biafra struggle

Corrupt S-East governors sponsoring Biafra — Ohanaeze, Okorocha By Emma Amaize,  Vincent Ujumadu, Chidi Nkwopara, Jimitota Onoyume, Francis Igata, Ugochukwu Alaribe & Jude Opara ENUGU — South-East governors appeared divided, yesterday over the ongoing pro-Biafra Republic protests. While Imo and Ebonyi states kicked against the protests, Abia State remained neutral, while Anambra State said it was studying the developments.

Fayose calls on NJC to probe Taraba Tribunal Judgment, says it is judicial rascality

MTN CEO resigns after compulsory fine by Nigeria

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr Sifiso Dabengwa, has resigned, following the 5.2 billion dollar fine imposed on the company by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).

Dabengwa made this known in a statement sent to newsmen on Monday in Abuja. He said that the resignation was in the best interest of MTN, which has seen its share price plummet since the fine was announced.“Due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria, I, in the interest of the company and its shareholders, have tendered my resignation with immediate effect,’’ Dabengwa was quoted as saying. It will be recalled that the 5.2 billion dollar fine was imposed on the company in October after it failed to deactivate unregistered SIM cards from its network. The company had been negotiating with the Nigerian authority on the fine, but a source at the NCC said that the commission had turned down a request for downward review of the fine. MTN currently has no fewer than 60 million subscribers in Nigeria.

DPR seals 35 petrol stations in Akwa Ibom

The Department of Petroleum Resources, Eket Office, on Monday said it had sealed 35 petrol stations in Akwa Ibom for selling fuel above the approved pump price of N87.

The DPR Operations Controller in the state, Mr Asuquo Antai, said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Eket that, the stations were sealed in Uyo, Eket, Ikot Abasi and Nsit Ubium. Antai said that the action was taken after the expirationof a three-day ultimatum given to the fuel marketers to revert to the approved pump price.
