S-East govs divided over pro-Biafra struggle
Corrupt S-East governors sponsoring Biafra — Ohanaeze, Okorocha By Emma Amaize, Vincent Ujumadu, Chidi Nkwopara, Jimitota Onoyume, Francis Igata, Ugochukwu Alaribe & Jude Opara ENUGU — South-East governors appeared divided, yesterday over the ongoing pro-Biafra Republic protests. While Imo and Ebonyi states kicked against the protests, Abia State remained neutral, while Anambra State said it was studying the developments.
Fayose calls on NJC to probe Taraba Tribunal Judgment, says it is judicial rascality
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to probe the Taraba State governorship electiontribunal’s judgement, sacking the State Governor, Darius Ishaku, saying “such judicial rascality and conspiracy displayed in Taraba State must not be allowed to go unquestioned.”
MTN CEO resigns after compulsory fine by Nigeria
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr Sifiso Dabengwa, has resigned, following the 5.2 billion dollar fine imposed on the company by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
Dabengwa made this known in a statement sent to newsmen on Monday in Abuja. He said that the resignation was in the best interest of MTN, which has seen its share price plummet since the fine was announced.“Due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria, I, in the interest of the company and its shareholders, have tendered my resignation with immediate effect,’’ Dabengwa was quoted as saying. It will be recalled that the 5.2 billion dollar fine was imposed on the company in October after it failed to deactivate unregistered SIM cards from its network. The company had been negotiating with the Nigerian authority on the fine, but a source at the NCC said that the commission had turned down a request for downward review of the fine. MTN currently has no fewer than 60 million subscribers in Nigeria.
DPR seals 35 petrol stations in Akwa Ibom
The Department of Petroleum Resources, Eket Office, on Monday said it had sealed 35 petrol stations in Akwa Ibom for selling fuel above the approved pump price of N87.
The DPR Operations Controller in the state, Mr Asuquo Antai, said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Eket that, the stations were sealed in Uyo, Eket, Ikot Abasi and Nsit Ubium. Antai said that the action was taken after the expirationof a three-day ultimatum given to the fuel marketers to revert to the approved pump price.

Assuming but not conceding that the Tribunal, which sat in Abuja was right to declare that it was wrong for the PDP primary that produced Governor Ishaku to have taken place in Abuja, at best, fresh election ought to have been ordered.

68-year-old woman kidnapped at gunpointin Delta
A 68-year-old woman, Mrs. Evelyn Agboro, was over the weekend, reportedly kidnapped by unidentified gunmen operating at Emevor, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. According to reports, the armed men, who came in black T-shirts and a Vento Volkswagen car with registration No. AM 518 EFR, drove into the victim’s resident where they allegedly forced her into their car at gunpoint. Confirming the incident, acting Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the State, Mr. Charles Muka, said officers have been mobilized to search for the victim and apprehend the suspects. Muka said, “On the day the incident was reported, police detectives swung into action, trailed the suspects and on sighting the officers they abandoned their vehicle and fled into the bush.“When the car was searched, an identity card belonging to one of the suspects at Ubogo town was recovered and he was immediately arrested,” the pork added. Muka, however, added that the victim was yet to be rescued. He said there had not been a ransom demand from the criminals.
