Presidential Fleet Gulps N2.3 billion in 5 Months

This is official. The federal government has spent “a little above N2.3 billion on maintenance of the presidential fleet between May 2015 and now.” At interbank rate, this is about $11.5 million. I repeat: 11.5 million USD was spent in about five months on maintaining the 10 aircraft on the presidential fleet; salaries and repayment of old debts inclusive.

This is what the Buhari administration calls “little”. $11.5 million is a lot of money anywhere in the world. This country is broke and we are still keeping 10 aircraft in the presidential fleet. The 10 aircraft include: 737 BBJ (1); G550 (1); G500 (1); Falcon 7X (2); HS 4000 (1); Agusta139 (2); Agusta 101(2). Why must this country continue to keep 10 aircraft in the Presidential fleet in an era of Change? Yet, Buhari is telling us that this country is broke. How many “broke” countries can afford to do this? Just imagine the number of tattered hospitals and schools we can fix with N2.3 billion in just five months? This is food for thought.
